The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) was established in 1904, and is recognised by the Office of Qualification Regulation (Ofqual) in England.

Today the ISTD has more than 7,500 members in over 50 countries throughout the world and holds 250,000 examinations each year. ISTD qualifications are regulated and are entered on the Regulated Qualification Framework, which equivalences to the European Qualifications Framework. This together with the fact that they have been established and offering examinations since 1904, means that their qualifications are recognised worldwide.
